It’s officially been one month into 2018! Yay! How are YOUR resolutions going – because I’ve already forgotten mine?

Tbh, I didn’t even think about them. Each year is the same: Make well-meaning resolutions, realize I’ve forgotten, and then roll my eyes and grumble at how I’m still just me. It’s a vicious cycle. And wasn’t it Albert Einstein that said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

So this year, I did nothing.

And in this first month of doing absolutely nothing different with my life, I have never been “better.”

Hold on; hold on, I can already hear your objections. Yes, there's always room for improvement, and yes, goal-setting is a positive activity, but how about for this New Year, you’re just okay to be you?

Because here’s the real deal: Imago Dei.

We were created in the image of God, ladies. Do you know what that means? I mean, do you know what that actually means?

Let’s refresh:
Genesis 1:26-27: 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Genesis 5:1-2 1This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man[a] when they were created.

Imago Dei is God's self-actualization through humankind and God's care for humankind.  God’s care for humankind! That’s you! That’s me!

The God, who created the entire universe, who created us, who created us to be like Him, cares for US. So much so, that he sent his only son to this earth to die for us to save us, from our own sin, so that we could be seen as blameless and spend eternity with Him.
Romans 5:8 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

This is it. This is why I’ve given up on New Year’s Resolutions. I don’t need a #newyearnewme. God created me in His own image, sent His son to die for me, and is transforming me by the power of the Holy Spirit!

There are no more eye rolls and grumbling at how I’m still just me.

I’ve entered the New Year with more self-compassion, more possibilities for potential, and excitement for the future, not because of anything I do, but because I am His!

So this year, it's time to make a real change. It's time to take note of who you are, where you find your worth, and have 2 Corinthians 3:18 on repeat:
“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image.”
